School Program Helps Teen With Rare Brain Disorder

HASLET (CBSDFW.COM ) - Kaitlynn Curtner is a musically gifted Haslet teen with a collection of guitars and a voice as good as any recording artist.

But Curtner has to work hard to have harmony in her life. A rare condition caused a cluster of blood vessels to burst in her brain when she was twelve.

‘Virtual’ school helps Texas teen thrive after brain injury

When Texas teen Kaitlynn Curtner was 12, she lost much of her short-term memory function when blood vessels burst in her head, making it hard for her to attend a regular school. The solution? Virtual school iUniversity Prep, where her lowest grade is a 98.

Kaitlynn Curtner's passion is music. The 15-year-old Haslet teen plays the guitar and piano and writes her own lyrics. Music also helps her cope with short-term memory loss and remember class assignments.

Awareness video collaborating stories told by AVM (Artrevenious Malformation) warrior survivors to help educate, raise awareness and show the need for something more to be done for this rare and devastating disorder. This video is in loving memory of Austin Wilkerson, who passed away on his 17th birthday from an unknown AMV rupture – something we knew nothing about.
